"Sunrise Over Playa" Original Oil Painting by Hallie Kohn Art

My husband and I traveled to Playa del Carmen with my family while I was pregnant with our first son. It was a wonderful pre-children vacation, full of time on the beach reading books and just being still. The view from our balcony faced east and so we saw the sun rise over the ocean each morning.

This painting captures one of those beautiful sunrises--just about the perfect way to begin a day and to calm one's own waters. This was fun to paint and I enjoyed the looseness; it was all done with brush, thickly to provide some texture. The colors are soft, and just seem to glow with warmth.

Mi Casa es Su Casa by Pamela Blaies

Bouganvillea and a Blue Door
14" x 11"
Oil on Canvas

There is a common spanish saying, "mi casa es su casa." It literally means "my house is your house," but is meant to offer warm hospitality. Brightly painted buildings and beautiful flowers are found everywhere in Mexico. Memories of my visits there are filled with color and my mind often drifts back on sunny summer days. This painting, full of texture and color, offers a cheery welcome.
