Sunshine by Kay Wyne

Sunshine
10" x 10" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Rooster Painting
I have been experimenting with dark backgrounds, and this rooster pops with such a dramatic contrast.  I named this rooster Sunshine because of all of the colors in his feathers and comb.  He reminds me of a colorful sunny day.  The sides of the canvas are also painted black, so a frame is not necessary.  Contact Kay for purchasing info...Sunshine is drying at the studio before he takes off.

Georgie Boy by Kay Wyne - Sold

Georgie Boy
Sold
12" x 12" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Rooster Painting
George has flown away from Dutch Art Gallery, and I am thrilled to report that he has a new home!  Thanks to gallery owner Pam Massar for selling Georgie Boy to a Dallas collector.  George is a handsome Buff Orpington rooster, and is the mascot at our local Gecko Hardware Store in Lake Highlands.  I painted this 12" x 12" canvas several months ago in the gallery with George sitting on the counter.  I wanted to get his beautiful feathers and full body in this painting.  I loved layering the paint to get a full-chested and fluffy George on canvas using my palette knife.  Thanks for looking at my blog...I guess I need to paint another Georgie soon!  Kay

Red Rooster by Kay Wyne

Red Rooster
30" x 30" Oil on Canvas
Framed in a wide gold moulding..ready to hang.
This Red Rooster lives at Heritage Village in Downtown Dallas. Painting partner Sharon Hodges took a great photo of this rooster in a striking pose. This plump rooster has bold brush strokes, and fills the canvas with his black and white feathers. His golden beak, red comb and black and white feathers make this contemporary city rooster interesting. The background was applied with a palette knife, using naples yellow, white and yellow ochre. Please contact ME if you would like to give Red Rooster a new home.  Thanks for looking at this blog.  Kay

Big Guy by Kay Wyne

Big Guy
30" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Painted on a heavy-duty 2 1/2" thick gallery wrap canvas, this rooster is looking for a new home.  As you can see in this pic, the sides are painted and a frame is not necessary.
Through out most of the painting, the paint was applied with thick, bold strokes with the palette knife.  The application of paint created texture on the canvas.  This contemporary rooster was named Big Guy because of his imposing stance.  The rooster is bold and bossy, and would be a conversation starter in any room.  Contact Kay with any questions or comments.  Thanks for looking at this blog!  Kay

George Being George by Kay Wyne

George Being George
12" x 16" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
George, was sitting in his cage up at Gecko Hardware Store in Lake Highlands when I visited him last week.  He was perched up on a branch, taking in the wonderful fall weather.  I put the chicken wire in the background of this painting...or at least implied it.  He was sitting there, just being George.  Therefore, the title, "George Being George". I used thick layers of paint, along with the palette knife to  paint this canvas.  The gallery wrap canvas is is painted on the sides, so no frame is needed.  Contact ME for more information on this painting...It is drying at the studio.  Thanks for looking....Kay

Georgie Boy by Kay Wyne

Georgie Boy
12" x 12" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
This is yesterday's painting demo at Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas for a group of lovely women from Rockwall, Texas.  We had George, the rooster there live from our neighbors at Gecko Hardware Store in Lake Highlands come down and do some modeling.  He was really good for 90 minute session.  I photographed this while it was very wet, so there is a little glare on it.  This paint is very thick!  But because I used impasto, it will dry fast.  It is on a gallery wrap canvas, so no frame is necessary.  Thanks for looking at this blog.  Contact Kay with any comments or questions.  Kay

Big Guy by Kay Wyne

Big Guy
30" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Rooster
This palette knife painting is fun, colorful and has lots of texture.  You can see the layers of paint, as it was applied with a knife.  You can't help but want to put your hands over the surface and feel the chunks of paint.  The paint is also on the sides of the stretcher bars, so framing is optional.  Contact Kay for more information on this painting.  Thanks for looking...Kay
