"Vernazza Below the Cinque Terre Trail" by Karla Nolan, palette knife oil painting

This painting isn't for sale.  It's my gift to my husband for his birthday.  He took me to this fabulous place a few years back.  I thought I was prepared.  No intention to hike, no thanks, that's not my thing!  Once we were there, however, it was obvious we had to make a trek on the trail, at least some of it.  One can take trains from town to town, also, but to catch the best view, the dirt trail (and some mud) would be involved.  Unfortunately, I had not planned for this!  I didn't bring any sort of hiking shoe or sneakers, so I did a bit of slipping and sliding.  But I got some excellent photos and ended up having a grand time!  (Especially when it was over, a bright memory!)  Ah, Italia!

"Viewing Vernazza From the Cinque Terre Trail" by Karla Nolan, watercolor and ink painting

Hiking along the Cinque Terre trail in Italy was quite the adventure, especially since I had not anticipated this activity and did not bring the proper footwear.  I'm not much of a hiker but I do enjoy a good view. I surely got one from here!

"Nestled In Cinque Terre" by Karla Nolan, UNFRAMED miniature palette knife oil painting

Well, another whirlwind tour of Italy here!  Cinque Terre was a delightful place to visit a number of years ago -- the food, the view, the hikes, the water along the cliffs.  Unbelievable.  I would urge you to take the time to visit it and make sure you have the anchovy dishes, freshly prepared, they are unlike anything you've ever had, just wonderful!

I have taken a quick pic of this unframed painting in a gold frame, to give you a hint of what it could look like on your wall!  Ciao for now!

"Trail on the Mediterranean Sea" Original Palette Knife Painting by Hallie Kohn Art

This was a commissioned piece done for a couple who travel a lot and were just home from Italy. The image captured a whimsical moment of theirs, and was a unique photo taken on a trail in Cinque Terre that connected the village of Monteresso with Vernazza. The lock was added from another photo on Via dell' Amore that spelled out their names with a heart in the middle. (And you know I'm loving the blue!)

Lake Como / Cinque Terre Plein Air Painting Workshop

"Peaceful Harbor," Lake Como, Italy ©2012 Niki Gulley
oil on canvas • 24" x 36"

Lake Como, Italy is probably my favorite spot from all of our travels. The vistas are simply breathtaking with the alps in the background, the gorgeous blue of the lake, the brightly colored unique buildings and the lush foliage dotting the magnificent gardens. I love this little laid back town of Varenna, which is so peaceful that all of your cares just melt away.

If you'd like to join us in Cinque Terre and Lake Como, Italy this Sept. 7th - 16th for our next Plein-Air Painting / Photography Workshop, e-mail Niki Gulley for more information or visit nikigulley.com/artreks. Registration deadline Feb. 17th.

"Cinque Terre, Misty Day", by Karla Nolan, palette knife, brush, oil painting, gessoed board, modern, contemporary, impressionist, landscape, seascape

My apologies, I have been swamped with family issues and haven't been able to paint for almost two weeks!  Unbelievable for me!  So....we're back to Italy, the Cinque Terre again, on a rare misty day.  This was a challenge to paint but it turned out fine in my book.  What do you think?

"Cinque Terre, Misty Day", 11"x14" palette knife and brush oil painting on gessoed board, $194, unframed, s/h to be determined at time of sale.  Write me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com for more information or to buy through Paypal invoice.  Thanks for looking!

I have set up a second website, Paintings On Glass, to showcase my paintings on glass.  There is a piece in progress as I type with sailboats.  That's a true challenge, showing proper structure and making the water look good.  Be sure to check it out, along with my new blogspot, listed below.
