Swallowtails by Sally Shisler - June Worskhop Begins 2 Weeks from Today!

Swallowtails - 2014044x4" Oil on Linen
This painting is for sale at The SOBO Art Center in Winter Garden Florida throughout the month of May.  Please email me at scshisler@gmail.com, 321-331-3045 for purchase information, or Mary Keating at 407-376-8657 or mkeating@@wgart.org.

An intriguing subject - bearded man with tattoos.  Look closely to see if you can find the swallowtails. Didn't mean for it to be the "Find It' game, but seems it became that.  Fun!  I actually love this painting.  The subject very different from my sunlit figures. Of course as I went along I had Sargent in mind. Certainly not his gorgeous buttery brush strokes, but my painting became more about designing the negative space to support the positive. Learning to marry the darks/lights of positive/negative space is a good lesson.

Email me directly to get detailed information about workshop content:

Day 38, Project 125 Peaceful and Restful oil landscape painting BECKY JOY

© 2014 Becky Joy    Peaceful Respite    oil     6 inches x 6 inches      $125.

Today (I always start out that way, don't I).   Hmmm.... gotta mix it up a bit.  Anyway, on with the day. I shipped off my paintings for the Plein Air Artists Colorado Annual Show at Abend Gallery in Denver. The show runs Aug 10 - 31.
Then, it was off to the art store in Scottsdale. I needed some smaller new tubes of paint for traveling on the plane. Some of my tubes were no longer readable, so much better to be safe and have labels clearly marked and full tubes. Then a couple more errand and lunch with my daughter. The afternoon was finally spent painting. This was painted in the studio, a kind of restful, peaceful scene. I think I needed that.
I hope some of you can join me painting in Italy at the Posara Watermill June 7 -14, 2014. Booking from now until Aug 31, 2013 there is a special discount where you can save on the rates. For more information on the workshop click here.
Now, a quiet evening!

Lake Como / Cinque Terre Plein Air Painting Workshop

"Peaceful Harbor," Lake Como, Italy ©2012 Niki Gulley
oil on canvas • 24" x 36"

Lake Como, Italy is probably my favorite spot from all of our travels. The vistas are simply breathtaking with the alps in the background, the gorgeous blue of the lake, the brightly colored unique buildings and the lush foliage dotting the magnificent gardens. I love this little laid back town of Varenna, which is so peaceful that all of your cares just melt away.

If you'd like to join us in Cinque Terre and Lake Como, Italy this Sept. 7th - 16th for our next Plein-Air Painting / Photography Workshop, e-mail Niki Gulley for more information or visit nikigulley.com/artreks. Registration deadline Feb. 17th.
