Low Tide 10" x 10" Palette Knife Abstract Landscape by California Artist Janet Bludau
My underpainting of red shows through is several places.
Also typical of my paintings is a combination of palette knife and brush work.
My inspiration for this painting was the Newport Beach Back Bay. The look of the bay changes by the day rather than the seasons. Depending on low tide or high tide, there may be solid water from shore to shore or just strips and spots of water.

I can't remember a time that I didn't have an artistic pursuit but I found my true love with painting. Although I enjoy exploring with different techniques and materials, I primarily work in oils with an abstract style. Thick paint placed with a palette knife and strong geometric shapes are often found in my paintings.
After earning a degree in Business Admin/Marketing, I went on to several "Big Girl" corporate jobs and then owned and ran a design business in Hawaii, importing antiques from the mainland. My education was rounded out through the UC Berkeley Extension Art Program and the College of Marin Art and Design Program. I am fortunate to have had wonderful instructors as well as the insightful critiques of my fun, fellow painters.

I love painting with the palette knife. It creates very different effects than painting with a brush. Strokes of thick, juicy oil paint applied with the palette knife impart a strength and vitality not possible any other way. This little jewel is a perfect example, with loads of sparkle that will add color and life to any room.

I am an American artist and I host a TV Art Instruction show where I teach studio oil painting and plein air painting in the Impressionist style.

Independence Tribute - Janet Bludau

Overlooking the Newport Beach Back Bay with the Pacific in the background, this painting was referenced from one of my photographs. This bronze sculpture is 9' tall by artist Benjamin Victor. On Memorial Day there were several bouquets of flowers placed on the base. There also were 2 carefully placed, plastic wine glasses with about an inch of white wine in them. I am sure there will be several more "offerings" on the 4th of July when thousands of people gather at the Castaways park to watch one of the best fireworks displays around.
