Cone Flower Heaven by Ann McCann 20 X 20" Oil on Canvas

(c)Ann McCann, Cone Flower Heaven, oil on canvas, 20 x 20"

Every year my hot pink cone flowers take over more and more of my flower beds. They are spectacular when all are in bloom. I just let them have their way.

Usually there are several butterflies on them. Can you find the small one in the close up?

Church on a hill, oil study on paper by Joseph Mahon

Whilst out on my rambles, I come across familiar sites and places. The church depicted is one such place that I have passed on numerous occasions. It's in a sleepy little village a few miles from my house. This particular day, the church was back lit against the sky and hills and I was interested in the profile the church made against the sky, thus transforming the ordinary familiar everyday scene, for me at least. Oil on gessoed paper 5x7 ins. Palette knife impasto and brush.

Original oil painting commissions by Karen Tarlton - pet portrait, bluebonnets and many more

Well I've been so super busy this month painting custom order for folks
and like I always say, these are my favorite paintings.
You all bring out the best in me so thanks so much.
Here are just three out of many favorites :)

Landscape with Flowers, Cone flower painting, daily painting, small oil painting, 9x12" Oil SOLD

I was going through my reference photo files, looking for inspiration, when I found an image from several years ago.  It's funny how I can be totally unimpressed with an image, and then one day, WOW!  I just have to paint it.

SOLD

I tried to remember everything I learned at my workshop with Elio Camacho a few months ago.   I tried to concentrate on color relations and brushwork.

Another priority.....not overworking the piece.  I felt happy when I finished, usually a good sign

A week later, I am still happy with it....an even better sign!  I hope you like it too.

Thanks for following my blog.

Ulm Pushkin, Montana landscape painting by Marion Hedger

Ulm Pushkin Mesa, Montana
by Marion Hedger
24x30cm Oil on MDF canvas panel
Contact me if you would like to commission your own unique landscape painting

This was a commission painting for someone who wanted a present for her husband. She sent me a few photos of Ulm pushkin and with those and some images I found on the net, I forged ahead. The difficulty was making the middle ground interesting and giving it a sense of distance.

While searching for photos I discovered this was in the First Peoples Buffalo Jump State Park and the mesa was used to send buffalo over the edge to kill them.

I sent her a photo of the work in progress to ensure I was heading in the right direction. I don't normally do this as my paintings don't usually make sense until finished and the colours change back and forth quite a bit during the process, but I needed to now if I was achieving what she wanted. She came back and asked for the mesa to be larger and there to be less orange in the middle ground.

Work in progress

I toned down the orange and increased the size of the mesa. I left it for a couple of days but wasn't satisfied with the overall looked. So I added more darks and gave it more of an early evening/late afternoon feel.

Farm Landscape | Daily Painting | Mountain Landscape | Valley View by Carol Schiff | 16x20x1.5" Oil

Being in the valley, our mornings in the mountains are often cool and covered with smoke (as in Smoky Mountains).  Often by mid-morning the sun burns it off.

This landscape is a nearby farm, one we pass each day.  Sometimes there are cows in the pasture or Canadian Geese in the ponds, but it ALWAYS catches my eye.

On this day, the sun was breaking through and the fields were glowing with hay.

We have just returned to Florida after a few wonderful weeks in the mountains of North Carolina.  Fall is magical to me, especially in the mountains.

Daily Painting | Bird Painting | Wildlife Painting | It's My Tern by Carol Schiff | 6x8" Oil SOLD

"It's my Tern" but it could be "Your Tern".

SOLD

I found these guys on the beach....actually they were two of about 50.  If you know your terns, you know they arrive in large flocks.  The flock acts as one unit and is so much fun to watch.  They swoop down on the beach, each one of them looking in the same direction.  If you get too close, they move a few steps in unison, always moving and looking as one.

I think this is one good tern..........

after another!

And my tern to have a little fun :-)

Collage of Horse Paintings by Lynda Cookson

I went through a period of painting only horses ... they are the most incredible creatures which look as if they shouldn't work ... engineering-wise. Thin legs on a heavy barrel body with an awkward neck and long muzzle? But wow .... the grace and beauty of these animals is unsurpassed!

Some of my horse paintings are still available on www.WildSummers.com
