Breaking and Entering by Kathryn Stotler
Breaking and Entering
20 x 20
Acrylic on canvas
www.kathrynstotlerart.com
This seascape is a mixture of palette knife and brushwork. I began the painting with the knives to create the sand, the rocks, most of the ocean and some of the sky. Then I went over areas with a brush to create the reflections and the sky as well as the even back line of the ocean. I hope I am not breaking any rules here but I simply could not get it to work by using only the palette knives. And I feel it needed the texture of brushwork to make composition work.
Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Colorado Wildflowers, Flower Painting, 8x10x1.5" Oil, Colorado Kansas Line
Years ago, I lived in both Colorado and Kansas, but I don't remember these wildflowers that I found growing everywhere, when I visited there last year.

They must have been there, but a visit is different than a young woman, raising a family and working full time.
Sorry for the glare on this image.
I added great swirls of texture to the canvas before painting, trying to capture the feel of flowers swaying in the breeze.
Can you tell I was facing east when I took this shot? In Colorado (at least where I was) when you face west you see the Rockies, when you face east, you see the prairie.
Thanks for reading my blog today.....and keep painting!!

Animal Oil Painting, "DUCKS GALORE" by Carol Schiff, 12x24" Oil. SOLD
A very nice lady from Alabama sent me images of her family's six black ducks, along with a request that I paint them for her.
www.CarolSchiffStudio.Etsy.com
SOLD |
Actually, the images only had five ducks. One of the ducks had gone to ducky heaven and she wanted to include him (her) too. I liked this image because all the ducks were looking in one direction. I added the missing duck on the end, as though he had reappeared and the others were greeting him back into the flock.
If you relate to the missing duck...I hope you find your flock soon :)

Heron In Flight by Chrys Wilson
This beauty was found along the Inter Coastal Waterway in Florida near the keys on the east coast. The Great White Heron mostly stays in the Florida Keys and rarely ventures too far north. She was definitely gorgeous as she lifted her wings and took flight, so we could not resist the opportunity to take her picture. Enjoy.
This is a 5x7 original palette knife rendering and is available

"Midnight Express" by Lynda Cookson
It's quite likely that I won't be painting abstracts for a while so I thought I'd have a litte Abstract Fest. "Midnight Express" earned her name through her jazzy style and colour.

"Golden Hour" by Karla Nolan, watercolor painting on paper
Some people say don't use metallic gold in your paintings, but I disagree with that notion. Rarely is it my go to, but in this case it captured exactly what I wanted, just a hint of shimmer in the late day. The "Golden Hour".
"Golden Hour", 5.75"x7" watercolor painting on paper, $45 includes s/h in continental U.S., Paypal accepted, contact me for more information at KarlaNolan@gmail.com
Thanks for looking!

"Life is an onion and one peels it crying."--French proverb
Escapism. Defying time. Serenity and solace. Reliving treasured moments...the reasons I paint and make artwork. The creative acts are surely the most pleasant and yet difficult of all. Color and form are special friends. The challenge of perfecting artwork is monumental and exhilarating. This effort has grown to be both friend and family, which are the two most important aspects of my life. Judaica is my most challenging art...Hebrew and I don't always get along!
I'm mainly self-taught in art, relying on intuition, experimentation, benefiting from studying books, visiting museums, galleries and learning painting techniques from other artist friends/relatives. I've studied pastels with Clive Tyler, taken oils with Daniel Edmondson. My newest medium is painting on glass, inspired by an Italian master, bringing this art technique home and applying my own topics. My oils are mainly with palette knife.
This art style might be called "abstract realism", an oxymoron in its own right. Favorite contemporary artists include Cruciani, L Horowitz, Berberian, S Stork, C Tyler, D Edmondson.
"Life is short, use color!"
Florida Landscape Painting | Daily Painting | Small Oil Painting | Wetlands View by Carol Schiff | 6x8 Original Oil | SOLD
I believe the wetlands of Florida are some of the most beautiful areas in the state, and sadly, some of the most underrated.

Being born and raised in Minnesota, I am very emotional about the seasons here in the Midwest and it shows in my work.
Color is the predominant Element in my art. I love color because it can express so many of the feelings that I want to incorporate into my work.
I paint in an expressionistic style. I use dramatic colors and loose brushwork to give the impression of familiar shapes and objects without focusing on the details.
I do both the fused glass and the silver work involved in creating my jewelry.

"Salt Life" Original Impressionist Palette Knife Painting by Karin Neuvirth
One of the best parts of living in North Carolina is the fact that I can get to beach in just a couple of hours.
I paint my beach scenes with exaggerated blues and teals to make them look as dramatic as I feel with the sand beneath my toes and the sound of the waves in my ears.

Small Seascape, "Green Wave" 6x8" Oil SOLD
My husband retired recently, and we find ourselves walking on the beach quite regularly these days. I always take my camera because you never know when that perfect scene will be spread out at your feet. On those days I go without it, I always see multiple "perfect scenes".
I have to remind myself, that seeing the perfect scene, and getting an image of it are two different things. Usually, when I look in my viewfinder, the sun is in my eyes, or some such distraction, and I just click away in frustration, unable to see what I am pointing at.
I enjoy the trip again when I return home and download the images. Usually I find at least a few that have possibilities.
I am sure by now all you plein air painters are horrified, but I have always been a studio painter and always will be. I did TRY to do plein air, but find it is a whole different ballgame. I have great respect for anyone who can climb a mountain with a 36x48 canvas strapped on his back.......just cannot see me doing it!
Enjoy the day.........
