Karen Tarlton Original oil painting - Southern Light - Impressionistic fine art

Homecoming means coming home to what is in your heart. ~Author Unknown

Southern Light
24x30
Oil

I've lived lots of places in our country....moved 17 times in 23 years because of my husband's military career.  It's been quite an adventure and I have many beautiful images in my head of everything from desert skies  (Nevada and California) and warm sandy beaches(California and Florida) to humid souther rivers (Alabama and Florida) and mountain forests and streams (Idaho)
I've loved traveling and living for a time in the varied places of our great country.
This is one from my memories of Alabama!

Light of Morning on River by BECKY JOY

This 5x7 oil painting is available on my website for $100. To buy click here.

This is from a photo taken in Utah a few years ago. It was morning and the sun was coming over the mountains hitting the river here and there. I love that kind of striking light. I used the palette knife on the light in the painting which gives more attention to that area. The palette knife also works great on the light ripples in the water. I loved the various blues and violets in this scene. By keeping everything in that palette it makes the yellows, oranges and greens of the light stand out.

It was a great day in the studio although a little short. I'm taking some time off to relax and go to the movies. I have to make sure and get out of the house here and there, because it is easy for me to spend all my time in the house and studio. Now that I moved and have my things all set up, I'm trying to get back into old routines which includes the treadmill. Sitting down at the computer and easel I don't get a lot of exercise. My routine used to always be the treadmill in the morning and then out of the house and studio at lunchtime for a bike ride or walk, just something to get out and see the world. Yesterday I started on the treadmill. Today I stepped it up and already feel the effects, which obviously means that I need it.

I'll be posting more paintings coming up so check back.

Red Poppies and Red House by BECKY JOY

To buy this painting for $100. click here.

This is a 6x6 oil on canvas, just a "slice of a house. I have listed this daily painting in my Zatista store. The lighting and the poppies along the walkway are what caught my attention when I took the photo.

The photo was from a trip to Breckenridge, CO a few years ago. I used to do the outdoor art shows with my tent. There were several shows in Colorado that I would do during the summer. Breckenridge was one of them. I would be up there a week or two at a time then come back home to Phoenix. During the week between the weekend shows I would wonder around and do some plein air painting. Breckenridge has a lot of quaint little houses in the town. Its a fun place to visit. The houses are full of flowers and color. So, I will probably be painting some more houses from that area. The little painting of the picket fence and gate that I painted about 10 days ago or so was also from the same area.

I didn't get very much painting done today. Even though I was in the house and studio most of the day, the heat here in Phoenix kind of zapped my energy. It was a lazy day, went bowling then came home and jumped in the pool. I really needed that.

I've had several emails lately from people asking me about teaching workshops. That is something that I love to do and would like to teach more. I've been teaching for about four years now, although it has been in Arizona. It seems that I hadn't gotten my name outside of the state until just recently with the blogging. So now I am getting inquiries from people.  If you have an interest in me coming to your area to teach a workshop, email me and let me know. beckyjoy@beckyjoy.com

I've got a painting that I want to finish real soon, so I will probably be in the studio in the next couple of days painting. Hopefully, I have more energy.

Talk to you all later,
BECKY

Old Building with Political signs daily painting by BECKY JOY

This 5x7 oil is for sale on EBay for $75.

To bid on the painting click here.

This painting is from a photo that I took several years ago in Tombstone, AZ. I like old derelict places and this one had the added bonus of the political signs on the chain link fence. We all know those corners that seem to have the signs that never go away. The names change, but they always seem to be there. I thought this would make the perfect gift for the political person in your family.

I had a lot of fun painting this one. I kept the shadows warm, getting warmer as it moves to the sunlit area. I used the palette knife in the foreground, roof, sky and signs. Its much easier to get straight lines with the palette knife rather than the brush.

I have added a lot of people to my newsletter list this month. I'm shocked at how quickly this is building. I am offering a FREE daily painting in a drawing this month of those that subscribe to the newsletter. If you already subscribe, tell your friends. If they sign up, just let me know and I will put you both in the drawing.

I painted another small paintings, but cropped it when I photographed it today. So, I'll redo it for tomorrow.
Talk to you all later.

Mountain and River daily oil painting by BECKY JOY

To buy this painting click here.

This 5x7 oil painting is from a scene in Colorado, but with a lot of liberties taken. I opened up the background and added the mist on the mountain to the right along with the course of the stream. I used the palette knife on the grass and brush in the foreground which contrasts with the smooth water and the thinner brushwork in the background. This helps to give more depth and texture to the painting. I have listed this painting on EBay for $75. I have more paintings on EBay. If you would like to see more that is up for bid, click here.

Remember that I am offering a FREE painting in my drawing this month. To be in the drawing, sign up for my newsletter. If you already subscribe, have a friend sign up. Then send me a note to let me know that you did so. That would be the only way I would know. beckyjoy@beckyjoy.com To view some of my old newsletters go to my archive.

I've been adding more paintings for prints. To see what is available in prints go to my Image Kind Store.

Off to paint again. Talk to you all tomorrow.
