Happy New Year! by Pamela Blaies

24" x 18"
Oil on Canvas

When I saw this amaryllis in the store, I was charmed by the basket it was in.  It was pretty pricey for a flower arrangement, but I decided I had to have it.  I wanted to paint it before I left town.  I was disappointed that the petals didn't open until the night before we were leaving for the week.  I was also worried I wouldn't catch them in perfect bloom when I got back, but what could I do?  It turns out the blooms were even more perfect when we got back.  I slept in this morning and painted the rest of the day - what a great way to start off the new year!

Enjoying the Outside....Inside by Pamela Blaies

Windowbox at a Brick Cottage
14" x 11"
Oil on Canvas

We are soon to hit a record here in the Dallas area of days in a row with over 100 degrees. If I have to go outside, I try to make it only a few minutes, it is just so hot! I miss spending time outside. Windowboxes let you enjoy a garden up close without having to brave the heat. This windowbox painting is full of fun texture and lively color. The bright red geraniums first grab the attention and then lead the eyes to explore the colors and texture of the wall. It makes me want to reach out and feel along the rough bricks.

Basketful of Blooms by Pamela Blaies

Blue Hydrangeas in a Basket
11" x 14"
Oil on Canvas

Blue hydrangea are my absolute favorite of all flowers. I cut a few from my garden to have some fresh flowers in the kitchen and carried them into the house in this basket. When I set them down on the table to find a vase, I noticed how great they looked in the basket and decided I had to paint them. I added a gold colored napkin and painted the light filtering in through the window. The colors and light - and of course my favorite flowers - in this painting make me smile each time I look at it.

Orange Roses on Blue

Orange Roses on Blue
Oil on Canvas
5" x 7"

Lush and decadent orange roses, with touches of peach to soften their boldness, beautifully contrast with the calm blue of the background. The heavy texture of the petals gives them a sculpture-like quality as they come alive on the canvas.
