Missions at Midday by Pamela Blaies

Mission Porch in San Antonio
14" x 11"
Oil on Canvas

I have been enjoying some rest and relaxation in San Antonio this week. It has been great! In my last post, I talked a little about my trip to visit the missions here in San Antonio. I got a little sidetracked exploring the colorful neighborhoods, but finally did get to see Mission Concepcion and Mission San Jose. Even with the heat in the middle of August, there is bright, blooming flowers that stand out against the old stone and wood of the missions. This doorway with it's vine-covered pergola looked like an inviting villa that was still inhabited. It is interesting to imagine what life was like back then. The shadows and highlights of midday give interesting contrast to this painting.

Mission San Xavier oil painting by BECKY JOY

To buy this 6x6 oil click here.

This is an oil painting of the San Xavier Mission south of Tucson. The top was never completed on the one side, so it certainly makes this mission distinctive. This is in the late afternoon when the golden light shines on it. I used both the brush and the palette knife on the painting. The darker colors are thinner and the light has all the texture. I started painting this a few days ago, but screwed up on the drawing. So I waited for it to dry then went back into it and finished the piece. I think this painting would look great with a wide dark frame. It would really set off the golden color of the sunlight. I have posted this painting on EBay with a bid starting at $65. Check out my other paintings on EBay that are for sale.
