Red Dragonfly by Kay Wyne

Red Dragonfly
32" x 32" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
I painted all day yesterday---so much that my feet and knees hurt this morning.  I hope to finish and post the painting I am currently working on for tomorrow.  This painting was inspired after seeing a photograph that fellow artist and friend, Mark Malone took.  He had blown the image up and it was so neat!  I used one size palette knife on this canvas....the paint is built-up, giving it texture.  I had to stop a few times to let the paint dry, then go back into the paint layers of color.  I did not want to create mud!  This contemporary palette knife painting was so much fun to paint.  Contact Kay for more information. Thanks for looking...Kay

Niki Gulley featured at American Fine Art - this Saturday

"Seasons of Change" ©2012 Niki Gulley
30" x 30" textured oil painting on wrap around canvas

With "Seasons of Change," I wanted to focus on brilliant color and simple shapes to see if I could communicate the excitement I feel when surrounded by nature. Using energetic diagonal strokes and thick, textured paint, I hope you get a sense of the motion in the leaves and the power of nature to invigorate your spirit. I just love how this piece captured that essence!

To see "Seasons of Change" and more of Niki Gulley's textured landscape paintings, visit American Fine Art Gallery in Dallas, (American Fine Art.)

Gulley will be the featured artist this month, and on April 21st the gallery will host a reception with the artist as part of Dallas' Spring Gallery Walk. "Long Shadows" oil painting by Niki Gulley at White Rock Lake, Dallas

“Long Shadows” White Rock Lake ©2011 Niki Gulley
12” x 24” oil on canvas

Sunset draws lengthening shadows across the grassy waters edge at Sunset Bay, White Rock. The lake shimmers in the evening glow as sky high above fills with deep blues and before you the soft, moody colors stretch out, long lines beckoning you into the complex diagonal composition. Rich texture models the leaves, branches and tree trunk rimmed in the sunset and shadow. Vivid masses of color form the foliage on the opposite bank, fall at its peak. The long cast shadows draw you into the tranquil landscape and the peaceful, dreamy sunset at White Rock Lake.

E-mail Niki Gulley for more information on her contemporary landscape paintings.
