Country Road Take Me Home

My mom was running late when I arrived in Georgetown last week and forgot to leave me a key. While waiting, I took a little time to walk down this gravel road out to my mom's farm as the sun was going down. It was so quiet and peaceful. I was awestruck at how blue the road looked at that time of day. I didn't have my paints with me, so I took some photos and intensely studied the colors I saw to commit the scene to memory. I worked loosely to get the fresh feeling of a plein air piece.

To My Cowboy Dad by Pamela Blaies

Father's Day is a great time to think about how lucky I am to have such a great Dad! My Dad has always been a cowboy at heart. He is living his dream on a farm outside of the Austin area. He works with his tractor, puts up fences and raises mustangs. He loves it when I paint views from his land - and how can I resist with all of the character and beauty I see everytime I visit. This painting is a view of a tree by the long gravel road from his farmhouse. Unexpected colors and thickly textured clouds add interest and make me feel as if I'm back, enjoying the drive.

Country Roads Take Me Home by Pamela Blaies

I've been doing a lot of driving lately. On the road to my parent's farm a couple of days ago, I noticed this awesome gravel driveway of one of their neighbors. The colors were so inviting and the length of the driveway adds a little mystery. I'd love to see what lies at the end.

Between Portland and Eugene-Janet Bludau

Oregon is such a beautiful state.  I took several photos on one of my drives back to the airport after visiting my daughter at school.  This 6x6" oil was juried into the Higbee 6" Squared show a month ago and is a combination of brushwork and pallete knife.  I am showing it both unframed and then framed in a floater from Art and Frame.
