My friend, Donna, was kind enough to share her gorgeous photo with me, and allowed me to paint the image.

Poppies Commission by Marion Hedger

Poppy Trio
30x30cm (12x12) on MDF canvas board
SOLD

This painting was a commission painting based on a previous painting.

Coincidences do happen...

The orignal was painted a few years back and had no interest. It eventually sold at the end of last month. The next week I received a request for a new version of this for a commission. Funny how something can be ignored for ages and then suddenly two come along at once - a bit like buses.

My collector was so pleased with it, that he has requested another two slightly larger paintings...

The original Painting

He wanted a lighter background and the poppies to stand out more. Obviously he felt I had achieved what he requested. He's happy and I certainly am.

Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, "Mountain Poppy Field" by Carol Schiff, 8x10x1.5" Oil

My husband and I spend lots of summer time in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina.  Whenever I visit, I carry my camera just about everywhere.

I always love it when I stumble across a field of flowers....it seems like a little surprise gift.  I do have to admit that this gift was probably planted by the North Carolina Highway Department or some such government organization.  Still I have to appreciate the beauty of this seemingly random scene.

PRINTS OF MY WORK
For years, I have resisted painting on gallery wrap canvas because of difficulty with storage and shipping.  Finally, I have seen the light and am moving in that direction!  I still have lots of canvas panels and studio canvas to use up, but as I replenish my supplies, I am using gallery wrap.  It is so superior in look and of course, the ability to hang without a frame.  The exception to this is my small 6x8" paintings which I will probably continue on canvas panel.  I would love to hear your thoughts on this issue!
I hope you like today's daily painting.

Mountain Song Poppies
by Nancy Medina
16X12
Oil on Archival Panel

Mountain Song Poppies is the newest daily in Flower Mound Studio, as I begin work on a set of tulip and hydrangea still life commissions. Tomorrow I'll be packing boxes to ship to California for an upcoming workshop in San Diego. With all the rainy chilly weather in North Texas, it is going to be wonderful to enjoy sunny skies, and those big ole Coronado rose gardens! Stay tuned to my art blog, I'll share pictures from the workshop.

Textured Poppy painting by Niki Gulley

“Dreams Revisted” ©2011 Niki Gulley
36” x 48” textured acrylic on canvas

In this painting I wanted to create a dream-like feeling using one of my favorite flowers, the poppy, so I chose to paint this landscape at dusk as the sun is starting to set over the distant hills to add to that mood. I love the wildflower masses in the foreground creating waves of color, and the curving shapes adding to the sense of tranquility. I was mesmerized what the cinematography in the movie “What Dreams May Come” and my painting reminded me a little of those magical graphics, so I decided to title my piece the same.

E-mail Niki Gulley for more information on my textured oil aspen and birch tree paintings.
