Traffic light mini series

I called this mini series of small paintings that were done from end of palette paint leftovers, the 'traffic light paintings' due to the red, orange and green colours.

These were fun to do and were snapped up quickly from my Etsy store. I eased my own rules a little to create another in this group which will be available to newsletter subscribers only. I am a professional visual artist in northeastern Newfoundland and Labrador. I am inspired by the ocean and boats. Reflections and colour are a large part of my work as well as creating the nuances in values that make these things so unique. I am an impressionist painter working with a palette knife, however, I do use other mediums for small paintings and create original prints in the form of linocuts and etchings. "Return to the Irish Cliffs" by Karla Nolan

Whenever I am indecisive about what to paint, I know that I can count on Ireland. It is so beautiful there and the multitude of green hues is a blast. You can't go wrong with the greens of the land, be they emerald, olive, lime, and so on. Never a dull moment on the palette knife!

I believe this is Slea Head, near Dingle. I proudly display an Irish bumper sticker on my car, by the way, even though I don't have a drop of Irish blood in me -- my husband does, however!

"Life is an onion and one peels it crying."--French proverb Escapism. Defying time. Serenity and solace. Reliving treasured moments...the reasons I paint and make artwork. The creative acts are surely the most pleasant and yet difficult of all. Color and form are special friends. The challenge of perfecting artwork is monumental and exhilarating. This effort has grown to be both friend and family, which are the two most important aspects of my life. Judaica is my most challenging art...Hebrew and I don't always get along! I'm mainly self-taught in art, relying on intuition, experimentation, benefiting from studying books, visiting museums, galleries and learning painting techniques from other artist friends/relatives. I've studied pastels with Clive Tyler, taken oils with Daniel Edmondson. My newest medium is painting on glass, inspired by an Italian master, bringing this art technique home and applying my own topics. My oils are mainly with palette knife. This art style might be called "abstract realism", an oxymoron in its own right. Favorite contemporary artists include Cruciani, L Horowitz, Berberian, S Stork, C Tyler, D Edmondson. "Life is short, use color!"
