On my roadtrip this weekend, I saw lots of cows. Every time I see cows, it makes me want to paint them. From my time around cows growing up, I know they aren't the cleverest animals. But something in their expressions always makes me wonder if they are thinking. This looks like a cow family enjoying a Sunday afternoon picnic. The bluebonnets make the scene ideallic.

These two cows are full of color and life. Usually cows have such a nonchalant attitude, but these have expressions that make them seem curious, though cautious. The perspective of this painting makes me think they are sizing me up and might walk right up to investigate at any moment.

I pulled over to the side of the road, in Indiana, I think, and looked up a small hill. Four cows, three of them in a line someone could have drawn with a ruler, stared back at me.

I stared. They stared. I stared. They stared. Finally, I took the photo and left.

Cows probably wonder what the hell we are looking at.
