Contemporary Floral Landscape

I was back in the studio yesterday, and got my palette knife out and created this painting.  The paint is layered on the panel, giving it texture and depth.  I moved the paint around quite a bit once it was on the panel.  The horizon line was changed numerous times...I wanted it to fade into the background, and needed to mix my oils over and over to get a hazy far-away look. Contemporary Floral Landscape

Today is day 4 of the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge

I have been working on a series of floral landscape paintings for the gallery in Santa Fe.  I have explored different size canvases, different color palettes, and different techniques.  Here I used the palette knife to get thicker, more textured flowers in the foreground.  The clouds and horizon have softer brush strokes.  The path fades away into the background....allowing the viewer to drift through the field.  Contact Kay for more information on this piece.

Sometimes I like to paint places that I dream about and hope to one day experience, as is the case in “Bountiful Bulbs.” The tulip farms that I’ve seen in photos look so magnificent with their perfect vibrant rows of color combined with hearing my friends’ descriptions of seeing the overwhelming explosion of blooms both inspire me to paint a strawberry-and-lemon-lollipop-dipped world where all of your cares melt away.
