Is There Life on Mars? , by New York artist, Celeste Plowden



I prefer to paint on a ground that is already colored, not just a white canvas, so I use my left over paint from the day to work up a background, with my palette knife.  I keep the canvas panels until something strikes me to paint on it, often something totally imaginary.  This is one of those paintings, all worked with my palette knife.  The red ground made me think of the red planet, so I painted an imaginary cityscape, just using red shades.
