"Autumn Gold" Aspen Tree Painting by Jill Saur

© 2006 Jill Saur Fine Art "Autumn Gold" 30"x40" all rights reserved
I am intrigued by aspen and birch trees. To me, they represent new beginnings and new growth because they replenish the soil, and provide a nourishing environment for other trees to grow. When I work on my tree paintings, they become like a rhythm that flows naturally from my soul onto the canvas.

This palette knife painting is sold, but a hand embellished limited edition giclee is available to purchase on my website. I use a palette knife to embellish my giclees.  I invite you to become a collector!  www.JillSaurFineArt.com

"Venezia" by Karla Nolan, miniature palette knife oil painting on linen panel

I painted this once before, years ago, on an 18"x24" sanded pastel board and enjoyed composing it so much that I did it again on linen panel, but this time as a miniature.  Anyone who has not been to Venice -- I urge you to go there, it is truly amazing -- Enough said!

"Venezia", miniature palette knife/brush oil painting on 4"x6" linen panel, $36 includes s/h in U.S., contact me at KarlaNolan@gmail.com and I'll mail you a Paypal invoice -- s/h in other locations to be determined at time of sale, of course.

I have set up a second website, Paintings On Glass, to showcase my paintings on glass.  There is a piece in progress as I type with sailboats.  That's a true challenge, showing proper structure and making the water look good.  Be sure to check it out, along with my new blogspot, listed below.

Sky #30 impressionist oil by BECKY JOY

This 6x6 is for sale on my website for $125.
The price includes free shipping in US and a
small display easel.

I worked in my new studio today. Everyday it is even better. Mike builds me little things in the studio. I posted a photo of the drying shelves that he put up for me. The gold ones are an old metal watercolor frame that he took apart and mounted the pieces on the wall. What a great idea. They are sturdy and neat looking.

If you have the opportunity to see the 6" squared show at the Randy Higbee gallery in Costa Mesa, CA, you should go. It looks like an absolutely fabulous show of 300 6x6" paintings. I have 3 in the show. I wish I was there.
The opening is Sat Dec 4 to 8 pm
and Sun Dec 5 12 to 5 pm
Show and Sale
This is my drying rack for the small paintings, my wrapping and framing station with the wire in the holder that Mike also made for me. The rack is really great. I can see the paintings that I've recently worked on (and tweak them if I need to) instead of placing them in the CD rack that puts them out of view.

Talk to you all later,

"A Touch of Pink" by Karla Nolan, miniature palette knife oil painting on canvas

It's the end of this day.  Look up into the sky -- now wait a while -- now look back again.  Almost all of the color has disappeared from view, as the sun has said "so long!" for today -- but, wait, isn't that just a bit of a hint of color up there?  Isn't that the last warmth of the day, just a touch of pink?  I see this sight often, have wanted to capture it for some time now -- did I succeed?

"A Taste of Utah, Capitol Reef" by Karla Nolan, palette knife oil painting on gessoed board

Color, color, color.  I'm all about color.  So is Utah.  Drive over, fly to, make sure you get to visit Capitol Reef, probably one of the least known spots in Utah, but surely one of the most dramatic.  Admittedly, I did play up the colors a bit here, but there's a reason for that:  it's called "artistic license".  The skies are blues, the rocks are reds, oranges, golds, corals, all sorts of colors.  The place is a  blast!

'The Parting' By Irish Artist Maria Noonan-McDermott

The Parting

They turned away
knowing they’d never return.
With heavy hearts
they began their journey,
lost in the shadows of memories,
veiled by the cloak of unknown.
They entered a land
of uncertainty,
unsure and alone,
emancipated by isolation
and segregated by fear.
They survive
because they are strong
and as they rise
they are reborn.

"Self-Reliance" by Kristin Jurist Haakenson
12" x 24" x 1.5"
acrylic on canvas
$500 + $30 shipping (contact)

I was inspired by Colorado artist Kate Dardine's recent quest to revive half-finished, forgotten paintings that have been sitting around the studio. This buffalo painting was, for the most part, finished - but I wasn't happy with the final result, and it has since been collecting dust. I decided to use some leftover paint from recent pieces and try to work as loosely as possible (I save all of my extra mixed paint in tupperware containers...once I spray them with some water and close the lid, they can last for weeks).

I've also been reading an anthology of literature by the American Transcendentalists. It has a lot of classic pieces that I could re-read time and time again, as well as some really fascinating journal entries, etc. that I've never read before. The Transcendentalists' writings have been a foundation in my life since I first delved into them...Ralph Waldo Emerson, in particular, really speaks to my soul.

I decided to choose a quote by Emerson (his work is in the public domain) to write on the sides of the canvas...the image of the lone bison really seemed to call out for something from "Self-Reliance".

The left side of the canvas features the following text, handwritten in a Sharpie pen (which was surprisingly difficult):
"Whoso would be a man must be a nonconformist. He who would gather immortal palms must not be hindered by the name of goodness, but must explore if it be goodness. Nothing is at last sacred but the integrity of your own mind. Absolve you to yourself, and you shall have the suffrage of the world."
RALPH WALDO EMERSON: Self-Reliance

...and the right side features this text:
"Nothing is at last sacred but the integrity of your own mind." - Self-Reliance
RALPH WALDO EMERSON

When I feel like I need to loosen up between other paintings, I might continue this trend and try my hand at creating some similar Transcendentalist-themed paintings.

"Sailing at Dusk Near the Cascades" by Karla Nolan, palette knife oil painting on linen panel

Dusk is just the loveliest time of day.  Over two years ago while visiting Seattle, I was lucky enough to see quite a number of boats out on the water -- remember where I live, folks, I'm landlocked -- and so here is my ode to the sailboats near the mountains at that wonderful time of day.  (A close up of the painting is below.)

Palette knife sky #27 by BECKY JOY

This 6x6 oil sunset is #27. I have placed this on ebay with a starting bid of $95. To bid click here. As with all my small daily paintings this one comes with a free wrought iron display easel, so framing is optional.

I've been working all day on commissioned pieces that have stacked up, a good thing. Sunsets are the themes of the bigger paintings with two to go. I've also been working at nights on the new website. Understanding some of the computer language is challenging for me, but I know I can do it. Years ago I did build my own website using frontpage, so I know I can do it again using wordpress. Ya just gotta read the directions. I'm more of a "hands-on"person . I have to force myself to take it slow and read all the directions in order. UHG!

Talk to you all tomorrow.

October Wedding by Roxanne Steed - sold

10"x8" oil on Belgian linen mounted on archival board

"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams."
-Eleanor Roosevelt

I have had the sweet blessing of painting a wedding portrait of a daughter and son-in-law of one of my collectors. It is such a privilege to take part in someone's life this way. I feel like I've been allowed to get to know the family after going through wedding photos- what a beautiful, exciting, and special celebration the whole event is. It is truly a joy to get commissions like this and even in this small way, take part in the happy occasion. "October Wedding" is a 10"x8" oil on Belgian linen mounted on archival board.

General motors truck oil painting by BECKY JOY

This 6x6 oil on canvas board is listed on Ebay starting at $95.
It comes with a free display easel.
To bid  click here.

Today we needed to get away from the house with all the construction and working so hard lately. So we went out to my friends Kit and Aryana so that I could paint their GM truck by the name of Giovanni.
I've painted this truck before and just love the patina and color variations in it. The reds and violets contrasting with the greens make a great combination. I had a lot of fun today. I need to get out there more often.

I've been working on my website now. I have a new host and will putting together a new site. I wasn't able to do some of the things that I wanted with the previous site, so here goes. I worked on it last night, now again tonight. Hopefully, it doesn't take too long. Probably not the best time of year to do this, but it needed to be done.

I'll try to get something else done tomorrow and get back in the swing of things.

Talk to you all later,

"Golden Moment, White Rock Lake" ©2010 Niki Gulley
oil on canvas • 12" x 24"

Just off the easel! On a peaceful autumn day last fall, I went out with my camera to White Rock Lake and captured this beautiful sunset behind the Dallas skyline. I liked how the pampas grass and various plants in the foreground were back lit by the setting sun and how the water's surface was shimmering from the low light, adding to a sense of mystery and tranquility in that golden moment.

If you'd like information on "Golden Moment," e-mail me at Niki@NikiGulley.com.

"Tag Along" by Karla Nolan, miniature palette knife oil painting on linen panel

It was over two years ago that I journeyed to Seattle, Washington, for the first time.  I am a landlocked native of colorful Colorado but really do enjoy being near the ocean, also.  And the seafood!  To die for!  I stuff my face with as much seafood as I can when visiting either coast -- a gluttonous fool while on holiday!  So...I saw this sweet little scene in Seattle and just recently attempted to capture it -- almost at dusk, a sailboat and rowboat in tow -- just so much fun!

BECKY JOY FINE ART sunset oil landscape

This 6x6 oil is for sale for $110.includes shipping in US
and display easel.

Hi everyone!
I'm finally up and running. My studio is just about done just a few finishing touches, some moulding, shelving in the storage room, my dry eraser board and lights. Daylight painting is OK right now. Its fabulous being in this new space. I've been getting it organized the last two days, then today I took the day off from working on it. I have some commissions I needed to get busy on, so that was the job today. I also painted this small little oil and hopefully, I'm back on track with the small paintings.

I've started to revamp my website, so it is down right now. I wanted to make some major changes to it. I will be having some video on it of demos and my new studio. So I'll let ya' know when its done and I'll post the studio picks and video.

Its been a lot of work the last 5 weeks. We did all the work ourselves. The last two weeks was more work for me so the painting took a back seat, but I just know I'll be putting out better paintings with this studio. At least it will help me be more organized. There is a place for everything now.

Talk to you all hopefully tomorrow.

A reminder that The Texas Discovery Garden at Fair Park in Dallas has the exhibit, Bringing the Trinity to Life.
