Daily Painting, "Atlantic Seascape", 8x10" SOLD
Who does not love the sea? The beach is a place of healing and joy. The salt cleanses us and the sun embraces us in its warmth. The ocean heals the heart, mind, and soul.
I have two loves, the sea and the mountains. They both have their own beauty and are ever changing. They both bring peace to my life.

Being born and raised in Minnesota, I am very emotional about the seasons here in the Midwest and it shows in my work.
Color is the predominant Element in my art. I love color because it can express so many of the feelings that I want to incorporate into my work.
I paint in an expressionistic style. I use dramatic colors and loose brushwork to give the impression of familiar shapes and objects without focusing on the details.
I do both the fused glass and the silver work involved in creating my jewelry.

"Brendan" by Lynda Cookson
"Brendan" was sent off last year to temporarily reside in the Bushmills 1608 Art Gallery in the town of the same name ... and yes, the same town that precious (to some) golden fluid, Bushmills Whiskey comes from. The whiskey was first made in 1608, hence the name of the gallery. I'm due to visit Bushmills in a month or two to see if "Brendan" has found his permanent home yet.
We lived in Connemara, in the West of Ireland, for thirteen years, surrounded by these cheeky, bold, black-faced sheep. They're evidently resilient enough to withstand the boggy terrain and harsh weather, and certainly have the character for it! I miss them.

Sunflowers oil painting by Marion Hedger 6x6"
Sunny Day by Marion Hedger
Oil palette knife painting
Oil palette knife painting
6x6" on box canvas
Living in the South of France has it's disadvantages -- depression sets in if we have two consecutive grey days! A couple of weeks ago we had several days of heavy rain and no sun. To cheer myself up, I got out the Cadmium yellow and painted these loose sunflowers. The colours and the act of putting lots of luscious paint onto canvas really cheered me up.

Niki Gulley’s passion for painting began in grade school when she had to draw something as mundane as shoes for art class, and loved every minute of it. Her parents enrolled her in private lessons and she was hooked. Following her childhood in Chicago, Niki relocated to Dallas to pursue an art major at SMU. Since she disliked the freezing Illinois winters, Dallas seemed like the place to stay after graduating.
Next, Gulley entered the world of advertising, working as art director for a local magazine. After a few years passed, Niki felt like something was missing. So she started painting again every free moment. This is what she had been missing and she began to feel fulfilled again.
It is from this feeling of true joy that Niki translates onto canvas. She seeks to capture the beauty of our landscape, utilizing vivid colors in oil paint and pastels to convey a particular mood. Gulley invites you to reconnect with nature and escape day-to-day responsibilities along with her in these creations.

Evening Shadows over the Vineyard oil painting by Marion Hedger
Evening Shadows over the Vineyard Provence, palette knife painting
Oil on 3mm thick MDF canvas panel
Size = 18 x 24 cm (approx 7"x10")
Oil on 3mm thick MDF canvas panel
Size = 18 x 24 cm (approx 7"x10")
A landscape featuring the vineyards of Provence, France and showing the spring colours of the vines and the distant mountains. The late afternoon sun throws strong shadows over the vines.
The thickly applied strokes add texture and movement to the oil painting, a modern use of impressionism. The texture and strokes can be seen in the close-up photos. It is painted loosely to give a lively feel and movement to the painting.
Can be framed but also looks good displayed on a mini easel

Abstract Landscape, Abstract Sunset, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, 6x8"
I am always fascinated by sunsets, especiall sunsets over water. This little study is my impressions of a sunset at Fernandina Beach harbor.
Of course, it bares no comparison to the actual photo(or the actual event) I took, but it did provide me with several hours of fun in the studio.
Such a simple piece should not have turned into the project I experienced, but as often happens, it did. I wanted just the right glow of colors.
It seems with me, a painting either falls off my brush or it is a major struggle. The falling off my brush part does not happen nearly as often as the major struggle. After 20+ years of painting, I imagined I would be further down the road. As my kids like to say, "it is what it is".
I try to appease myself by thinking if it were easy, it would be boring. Maybe so, but I could handle just a tad more boring,
Hope you have a great day. Thanks for stopping by.

"Two Peppers" by Lynda Cookson
A daily painting. "Two Peppers"
Nothing, flower or vegetable, goes through my household without being photographed for later painting reference, or set up as a still life for painting there and then. Peppers, oranges, lemons, butternut, pumpkins, aubergine, daisies, hyrdrangeas, roses, wild flowers from the garden ..... you name it, I have photographed it or painted it!
When we're doing our regular shopping, my husband often looks at what I'm buying, and with big kitty eyes or suspicious slit eyes aimed at me, asks "For painting or for eating?" or "Do we get to eat this while it's still fresh and unpainted?" He's well used to it though and I hear him telling tales on me about it to friends every now and then. LOL
This little painting is for sale. Just click on the image or the title below it or HERE.

I am continuing on my puppy painting project!
Meet Oscar! Well maybe that is not his real name, but I have come to think of him as an Oscar.
Some of the first paintings I sold, were pet portraits. It has been more years than I want to admit, since I have done any. I guess the urge is still there, because, when I see adorable pups I have to run to my easel.
If you have a special image of your "best friend", send it to me. Maybe you will see your little charmer here too.

This is a very special painting for me. My grandson, Kevin, is obsessed with fishing. He probably has 20 or more rod and reels for everything from deep sea fishing to fly fishing. I surprised him this Christmas with a painting of one of his best ever fishing days.
He was very surprised and will take it to his dorm room in the fall; a perfect reminder of days at home.

Oil on artist quality on stretched canvas, painted with a palette knife

An modern impressionist landscape painting featuring the remains of a Roman Fort in the Alpes Maritime area of France. Amazingly after all these years, some of the battlements are still standing and can be reached after an arduous (for me) walk up the mountain. The tree stands guard over the remains and catches the light in what is now a shady spot.
