This is one from a few years back (sold) where the background was created using very thinned down oils poured and dripped. The flowers and vase are palette knife painted. It still makes me smile :-)

Well, maybe it's not exactly abstract, but it's not exactly impressionistic either. I easily get confused over all the different types of "abstract" works.
Therefore, I will just proclaim that it is painted freely and freshly, just like the sea.

Daily Painting, Original Oil, Birds, "The Loner"
A wonderful bird is the pelican.........
His bill will hold more than his belly can.
He can take in his beak
Enough food for a week.........
But I'm damned if I see how the hell he can!

That is a little poem from my childhood days. I lived in Ohio, my grandparents in Florida. My grandmother had a postcard of a pelican that included that poem. Florida seemed like a magical place to me then, and the poem stayed with me through the years.

I am a graduate of the College of Design, Art and Architecture at the University of Cincinnati, with a major in the History of Art, 1977. Later, I studied printed textile design at Parsons School of Design, in New York. Immediately afterward, I began free lance work for several design studios in the garment district of NYC, where I did re-coloration work for printed apparel fabrics, and sold my own designs through Bread and Butter Designs,also located in New York. In addition, during the 1980's and 1990's, I designed a number of needlecraft and stencil books for Dover Publications. Currently, I am working on a series of exotic birds and other animals done in acrylic paint, with a palette knife, for texture and brilliant color. I consider my paintings to be representational or impressionistic in nature, and I use fantasy colors because what I see often makes me feel these colors,and what would make an interesting composition, rather than using realistic colors.

Daily Painting, "Waves", Seascape, 6x8", Oil, SOLD
I enjoy trying to capture the feel of the surf rushing to shore on my canvas.
The ocean seems to have a different character and color each time I visit. This is the east coast of Florida, while California is much more rugged and has a deep rich blue hue.
I like to use my daily paintings very informally in my home. Just prop them up where ever the mood strikes! No frame necessary!

During the hot, steamy summer months, I often wonder why we live in Florida, but this time of the year, there is no doubt.

I love to do seascapes, especially with a palette knife, as it allows me to use plenty of texture. I like working with the ocean, it seems like a different place minute by minute.

Who does not love the sea? The beach is a place of healing and joy. The salt cleanses us and the sun embraces us in its warmth. The ocean heals the heart, mind, and soul.
I have two loves, the sea and the mountains. They both have their own beauty and are ever changing. They both bring peace to my life.

Caribbean Blues, by New York artist, Celeste Plowden
Shades of blue and aqua come together to create this abstract painting of the Caribbean Ocean. I was inspired to paint this when looking at some photos I took of a tropical island I visited, where, beyond the beach and palm trees, the sea sparkles, its colors varying in the sunlight.
