"Ruin Above the Mist" was inspired by the wide open spaces, the big skies, where ancient ruins watch out over the lands in Ireland.

It's damp and cool where the blues, greens and grey rule. Crispness dominates in both temperature and view clarity. Ireland breaks all the gauges when it comes to measuring beauty ... too much to measure!

"La Bellieuse" by Lynda Cookson

"La Bellieuse" is the name of the old farm house my Loney ancestors used to live in in St Martin, Guernsey. We visited there recently, enjoying ourselves stirring up the ghosts and ancient family stories. Of course I had to paint the house!

"La Bellieuse" by Lynda Cookson

As a warm-up I painted a watercolour study of the front door
and a charcoal sketch of a different view of the house

Breaking Through by Lynda Cookson

"Breaking Through" ... I love this abstract. I can feel the sun, the warmth of that sun, a warm evening sky, the sea, and the white foam of the waves.

A residency at the restored stone cottage famine village of Cill Rialaig, near Ballinskelligs in Co Kerry, Ireland, was the inspiration for this acrylic on board. The strong winter wind whipped the foam from the top of the waves and blew it against the cliffs. That, together with the sense of all the ancient (and not so ancient) lives lived there created a very spiritual atmosphere. Absolutely wonderful weather and wonderful inspiration!

"Breaking Through" is for sale HERE ... or just click the image and you'll be taken through to the correct page where you'll find the price and the size of the painting.

Houses of Parliament, London, by New York artist, Celeste Plowden

This impressionist painting depicts the historic buildings on the Thames River, London, England, of the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben at dusk, the many Gothic spires reaching through the foggy sky to the pale moon. Somewhat abstract in the approach, and painted  with a palette knife, for texture, this is my impression of a favorite cityscape.  Acrylic on canvas, UV varnish, sides painted, wired and ready to hang. 12 x 12. Seeing Atlantis, by New York artist, Celeste Plowden

I used a palette knife in every stroke on this painting. Not only does it add texture, but even in the slightest application of paint, the knife makes varied surface possible, and allows the base color to show through, and aspect which adds an eerie feeling to a fantasy painting!

Night at Stonehenge, by New York artist, Celeste Plowden

Painting the sky with a palette knife not only adds the texture of layers, but easily gives the impression of a sky laden with clouds, mist and atmosphere. Everything was worked with a palette knife for textures, except the hint of shading on the stones.
