30 Days of Painting ~ Glass Study #6 Blue and Green by Karen Balon
![]() |
Glass Study #6 ~ Blue and Green Glass 8"x8" oil on Archival BoardClick for a Larger View Making just a little more progress rendering glass in Oil paints! Glass Study #6 I believe is my best one so far. Though I have started study #7 so stay tuned. Some of my astute artist friends, if you look closele or go to the Larger View you may notice a few brush strokes (shhh, don't tell) I know, another traditional painting (my 3rd in 3 years) and Brush strokes too! ] Can you believe it??? Sadly, I have fallen of the wagon of 30 days of painting. However, the reason for this was because I was in Scottsdale AZ going from gallery to gallery viewing LOTS of art! So in a way I was painting with my eyes ad memories. Does that count? I am going to say yes! I am back home now and back to the paints with lots of inspiration and ideas! We shall see what these ideas turn into? Visit the Heart of My Art Go Inside My Head Like Me on Facebook |

30 Days of Painting ~ Diablo Original Oil by Karen Balon
![]() |
"Diablo" 8"x8" Oil on Archival Board Click to View the Heart of My Art A fellow artist put out a challenge to do 30 paintings in 30 days to start off the New Year. Originally I was not going to do this challenge as I am NOT a paint a painting a day person. However, the of the challenge is to get yourself back into the studio and paint daily. So I am challenging myself to paint daily for the next 30 days. To get things started of I turned to my friend and favorite subject, The Sun. No matter what mood I am in, or how non-creative I am feeling I can Always manage to paint the Sun. This is my first painting of the year to come out of my studio Since I wasn't planning on doing the challenge I haven't had a chance to prep my website for links and such so please bear with me while I put on the computer geek hat to provide you with larger views of the paintings to come. Sun "Storm" for the Winter Solstice by Karen Balon
![]() |
Storm 6"x6" Oil on Archival Board Available unframed or framed For a Larger View, Click Here I've been in a creative Funk! Partly because the days are short and my energy is low. Partly because I've been learning/teaching myself to paint glass and none are suitable for viewing yet. When I am in a Really BIG creative Funk I turn to painting the Sun. I don't know what it is about the Sun? But it is the one thing that I can sit down and start off the same way every time and just let them flow out of me. Each one comes out in it's own unique way and I never have a clue as to what it is really going to look like until the muse says to me I am finished. They don't take me very long to do and they are quite relaxing to paint. I Love their fiery color and the wonderful texture they get due to my use of the palette knife. As the winter solstice is upon us and deep in the dark of the longest night Sing to the newborn Sun and may this fiery Sun Storm warm you from within. Please feel free to hang out in the warmth and energy of this sun and then pass it along to someone else who might be in the need of the it's energy as well. ![]() |
"The Space Between" 16"x16"x1.5" Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas Available $350 For a Larger View or to Purchase Click, Here |
As the Shortest day of the Year approaches
I start to Dream in
SunFlowers.
Must have something to do with
only seeing the sun
for a few hours each day.
To me, the Sun is Mecca, something I desperately need
on a daily basis.
The sun gives my Energy and Life.
With the short days upon us,
I need the
Happiness and Cheer
these wonderful sunny flowers bring to me.
My own Personal Pick Me Up.

Fall Foliage Original Oil Painting by Karen Balon
![]() |
Fall Foliage 6"x6" oil on board palette knife painting For a Larger View, Click Here |
Looking
back on painting these
Palm Trees
in non-traditional colors
I think my New England heritage
was making an appearance.
Though I may be living in the desert
these days my heart
will always be in New England
in the Fall.
So I guess it was only natural
for me to combine
my fascination with the Palm Trees of my current surroundings
with my love for the colors of
New England in the fall.

To date this is my one and only
"Jelly" that is
Not
painted in Yellows.
As well as,
the only one that has company
on the canvas.
It also has a couple of other
Differences
that the other "JellyFish" don't have.
Can you see what the other differences are?

"ThreeSome" is one of my "vision paintings.
They Twist, Turn and get Entangled with each other.
They Flow Up and Down
And All Around.
I Love all the Curves these morphing "Jellies" have.
They
Mesmerize me for hours,
your not sure where one Jelly finishes and the next one starts?
They must be from the Era of
Free Love?
Do you agree?

Pasadena Palm Tree Studies

Pasadena Palm ~ Non-Traditional Study 8"x 8" Oil, Palette Knife on Canvas For a Larger View, Click Here |
Been having a little love affair with Palm Trees as of late.
Love the easy breezy relaxed way they have about them,
Their graceful sway,
The I don't have a care in the world sound.
Just makes you want to sit under one and and enjoy a coconut cocktail.
So I decided it might be fun to play with some Palm Trees in the studio.
There is the more Traditional palm,
color and style.
And,
The less traditional with loose free knife strokes
using purple and pink colors.
