"Approaching Carmel" Palette Knife, Abstract Landscape by Janet Bludau

14" x 18"
Oil on Canvas
Parts of my initial underpainting show through the top layer of paint.  In the final stages I added palette knife markings to the painting, further delineating the shape of different crop sections.  Central California provides many photos for my paintings.  I like the geometric shapes of the land and how it all fits together as a puzzle.  Besides the useful photos,  some of my favorite places to visit are in Central and Northern California.  Carmel is at the top of the list.  Carmel is known for its beautiful coast of course.  The countryside of the Carmel Valley is equally beautiful.

Day 4, Tuscany Art Trek with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

10" x 8" textured oil painting by Niki Gulley

Day 4, afternoon:  TUSCANY ART TREK
Plein Air Painting and Photography Workshop with Niki Gulley and Scott Williams

After we were fortified from a delicious lunch, we headed to La Foce, a beautiful Italian villa and formal gardens set in the middle of the rolling Tuscan hills. The perfectly planted cypress are so unique to Tuscany that we chose them for our subject today set against a bright blue sky and peaceful sweeping clouds. For dinner that night, we treated ourselves to the "truffle tasting menu," melted pecorino and honey, Florentine steak and a little vino nobile and vin santo to wash them down. Delicious food and great company with new friends!

Our photographers getting into shooting one of the cypress lined roads in Tuscany!

Niki Gulley featured artist at First Friday Gallery Walk

“Ivory Refrain” ©2012 Niki Gulley
24” x 30” textured oil on canvas

Scrolling bark peels back like white washed parchment revealing secrets in the deeply textured wood below. A painting of grace and beauty, it’s verticality offset by embracing branches wound round as a sheltering arm. Each stroke is crisp, vivid, defined by thick textured oil, rich colors strike a reverberating chord – purple and the compliment of gold create a visual vibration that resonates in an optical song.

This painting along with several more of my textured aspen paintings will be featured at the Good Art Company Gallery in Fredericksburg, TX, as part of Fredericksburg's Fall Gallery Walk. I will be at the gallery to meet with you tonight from 6pm - 8pm and answer any questions about my work. I'd love to see you there!

Abstract Landscape of Wine Country Lavender Fields by California Janet Bludau

12" x 12"
Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas
$300

I love all the "wine areas" in our wonderful state of California.
I have spent much time in Sonoma County, Napa County and also the Central Valley.
Along with wonderful wine, you find olive oil production, lavender fields that take your
breath away and beautiful old oak trees.
This painting titled "Sonoma" is one of my favorite new paintings I have done.
Thank you for visiting our site.
