"Poppies and Hills" by Karla Nolan, framed painting on glass

Yes, here are more poppies, but these are painted directly onto the glass and the framing technique I use gives them dimensional aspects not usually seen in paintings on canvas.  These actually look three dimensional from some angles.  Always playing around with the glass paints and having a blast doing so!

"Poppies and Hills", 5"x7" painting on glass (measured edge to edge glass) in frame shown, $125 includes s/h in continental U.S., Paypal accepted, click my blogspot button below or write me for more information at KarlaNolan@gmail.com

Some days it is really hard to find something to paint.  It is always fast or famine with me and today was a famine day.  I decided to do a little seascape as I have not painted one for months.  In fact, I painted two of them today, so tomorrow I will post the second piece.

Inspired from a wonderful trip to Provence, I wanted this piece to be uplifting and full of color and energy. Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Thick strokes of oil are built up on the canvas creating texture.  The palette knife was much tool of choice on this painting.  I had to be careful not to mix up the colors once I put paint on the canvas...I could of easily created mud.  I was able to let the bold colors bounce off of each other.  This contemporary dragonfly is for sale.  Contact Kay for more information.  Thanks for looking at my blog.  Kay

Niki Gulley is please to announce the opening of her new studio!!

I am super excited to announce the opening of my new studio. After years of working in a confined space, I now have more than enough room to work on several large paintings at a time, to teach my classes and display my artwork. It's been a dream come true!

The studio is located just a mile south of my previous space, now in the White Rock Lake area.  The room has plenty of natural light, ventilation and easels. You can choose to paint standing or sitting down, whichever you prefer.  My goal is to make my students as comfortable as possible so they can really express themselves in their painting.

Please visit my website for more information about upcoming classes and Art Treks.  I'd love to have you in my next class. Or, drop me an e-mail if you'd like to view some of my most recent paintings and you're in the DFW area.

Flower Painting, Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Floral Still Life, Hydrangea Painting, HYDRANGEA AND MUG, 8X8", PALETTE KNIFE PAINTING, SOLD

SOLD

I picked these hydrangea from my garden last month and was compelled to paint them.  Hydrangea are probably my very favorite flowers and I love the summer months when my home is surrounded with their massive blooms.

I wanted to keep the painting as simple as the pitcher and mug.

For me, keeping it simple usually means "palette knife".

Enjoy your day!

"Pink Splash," by Palette Knife Painter, Celeste Plowden,
acrylic on 8x10 archival canvas panel, finished with a UV varnish

I love painting birds and  with a palette knife!  The swift action of the loaded knife gives a frenzied movement to the ruffled feathers, and an impression of the way sunlight hits the bird. I have been painting a lot of flamingos recently, and experimenting with different colored textured backgrounds, which imply water, or lush greenery.

Daily Abstract Painting, "Feeling My Way", 12x12"

Moving into a new area of work is always both exciting and frustrating.  When I sit down to try an abstract, I feel like I am jumping off a cliff.

On this piece I used acrylics, oils and ink.  I also included some cheesecloth for texture.

I am finding that although abstract looks very simple, and free, it requires much planning.

Have a great weekend and thank you for viewing.

New Tuscany Painting by Contemporary Impressionist Niki Gulley

“Spring's Escape," Tuscany ©2015 Niki Gulley
24" x 24" textured oil painting on wrap around canvas set inside an espresso floater frame

Inspired by our travels to Italy, cypress trees rise out of the vast open landscape signaling that you have arrived in Tuscany! Perched on a hilltop with its long curving driveway, this villa is set against the perfect backdrop for a romantic escape. Rows of soft wheat sway in the breeze and draw your eye back to the rolling hills and beautiful billowing clouds. Painted with palette knife and thick oil paint, this canvas is loaded with movement, color and dimension.

"Spring's Escape" and several of my contemporary impressionistic landscapes are also on display at the Good Art Company Gallery in Fredericksburg, TX. For more information, please contact http://www.goodartcompany.com/gac/.

Big Guy by Kay Wyne

Big Guy
30" x 30" Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas
Contemporary Palette Knife Painting
Painted on a heavy-duty 2 1/2" thick gallery wrap canvas, this rooster is looking for a new home.  As you can see in this pic, the sides are painted and a frame is not necessary.
Through out most of the painting, the paint was applied with thick, bold strokes with the palette knife.  The application of paint created texture on the canvas.  This contemporary rooster was named Big Guy because of his imposing stance.  The rooster is bold and bossy, and would be a conversation starter in any room.  Contact Kay with any questions or comments.  Thanks for looking at this blog!  Kay

"Dahlia in Stripes" Original Oil Palette Knife Painting by Hallie Kohn Art

I felt a lot of freedom with this painting and must be making progress. Not too long ago I would have measured and drawn those horizontal lines in and thought the spacing had to be exact, that they had to be touching without blending, etc. Not fun stuff fighting against ones natural tendencies. I think I was an architect in a previous life. ;)

"Flamingo" Original Oil Painting by Hallie Kohn Art

This flamingo was so much fun to paint, just nice and easy and loose. I tried to keep the edges soft and didn't get too hung up on the water. Couldn't be happier with the shadows and the legs. Kinda wish it was me walking on the beach in the sunshine right about now!

Thought I'd share this site I came across too:

"Panda" Original Oil Painting by Hallie Kohn Art

I am still reaping the benefits of my husbands travels to China. The light captured on these panda photos really appeals to me and I am so drawn to painting them; this is the third painting. There is also the beautiful contrast between what appears to be just black and white, yet is really a gorgeous combination of yellows, browns, purples, and blues.

By the Water #2 by Janice Tingum

by Janice Tingum
acrylic on paper
4.75" x 6.75"

This original acrylic painting is the second in my series of pieces inspired by the California coast. I painted this ocean view on heavy-weight watercolor paper, using both brushes and a palette knife to provide variety in texture and detail.

The painting can easily be matted and framed or displayed as it is on a small table easel. If you are interested in purchasing this painting, please visit my shop at Etsy for more details.

Artichoke Giclee' Canvas Print, Still Life Giclee Canvas Print, Artichokes of Roma by Carol Schiff, daily painting

I have been very busy adding giclee' prints to my Etsy site.  It has given me an opportunity to review some of my sold paintings.  I have enjoyed visiting with these "old friends" and though I would post a few.

Today  I wanted to show you this painting from a trip I took to Roma a few years ago.  I rented an apartment in Campo di Fiori, which is historical piazza.  One morning, I was surprised to see the piazza had been turned into a farmer's market for the day.  These were real farmers selling their fresh, beautiful produce.  I took lots of photos and when I returned home this was the first painting I created.

50+ with free shipping

The painting has sold, but I am happy to offer it as a giclee' canvas print in numerous sizes. If you look closely, you may be able to see a few Italian words that I hid in the painting.

The giclee's are high quality canvas and inks, professionally printed, gallery wrapped and finished with a semi-gloss protective coating.  They come to you ready to hang.  This piece is available from 8x10x1.5" to over 24x36x1.5".

Happy Day!

Earth Child Geraniums
by Nancy Medina
14X14
Oil on Gallery Wrap Canvas

Have you ever had one of those days in the studio where nothing you paint turns out right? I scumbled and wiped and mumbled through three canvases today before I finally settled on this geranium painting. I'm not sure why sometimes things flow, and sometimes it's like gears grinding. When the muses are singing, when things flow almost effortlessly onto the canvas, it's so nice, but it doesn't always happen, even when you've been painting every day for almost 7 years! Clearly, I need more chocolate in my diet or something....

Out of the Blue Delphiniums and Iris is the newest painting in Flower Mound Studio, and the last hurrah of the batch of fresh Japanese iris and blue delphiniums. The little petals were making plopping noises the whole time I was painting them under the studio light, as they fell to the tabletop. They posed bravely and stood steadfastly under duress, and deserve to be remembered for all they gave in the name of color! We salute you little flowers. Oh my, it must be getting late, where did that come from?

It's likely because I am still so absolutely delighted we had a very special visitor to Flower Mound Studio today! Read more....

Daily Painting, Small Oil Painting, Marsh Landscape Painting, Georgia Wetlands by Carol Schiff, 6x12x.5" Original

I have been trying to understand why I am so drawn to the marsh landscape, I finally realized, it is the way the water seems to drift lazily around the mounds of earth and plant life, the way it changes color from  season to season.  It is all just too soothing.

This is a good looking short-horn was at the LBJ Ranch, and I loved the way the left ear was perked up as if he was listening to our conversation.  I have had this Hereford sitting on my easel for a month or so...I think I am finished with it.  Here is a close up of the right ear:
I really liked the way the ear turned out...actually it is my favorite part about this painting!  I will let this one dry in the studio, and maybe make a few modifications here and there, but I signed it, and it is pretty much finished.  I don't know what I will be working on tomorrow, but as you can see the month of January is coming to an end....only five more posts on the challenge!  If you have any comments or questions, please contact Kay Wyne.  Thanks for looking at this blog.  Kay
